SSWOC is working to become a leader in scholarship related to Women of Color in STEM fields.

Our concerted efforts have significantly contributed to the national discourse and fundamental understanding of the lived experiences of women of color in the academic STEM disciplines. By providing the most accurate and up-to-date quantitative and qualitative analyses of data on STEM women of color, the SSWOC has shown that:

  • The majority of STEM Women of Color are pursuing their careers at our nation’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities. (Mack, Rankins, & Woodson, 2013)
  • Our current modes of assessing the representation of STEM Women of Color are too inadequate for determining best practices related to recruiting and retaining a diverse STEM faculty.  (Rankins, et al., 2014, Peer Review)
  • The SSWOC annual Conclave serves as a vital resource in enhancing the self-efficacy of STEM Women of Color (2015 STEM National Report)
